| YOU HEARD THAT RIGHT! (OLD SAYINGS, RIDDLES, TONGUE TWISTERS AND SILLY SUPERSTITIONS) This collection is dedicated to my mother, Parthena Prichard Freeman (1886- 1968), and my father, James Davis Freeman Sr. (1879-1943) for this is their basic collection. My husband shared his family’s favorites, and my son and daughter contributed idioms in a modern style. I am also grateful for the help I received from my two brothers and their wives, my three sisters and their husbands. Many of our friends have also shared their old sayings. I remember, in particular, one sweet little lady when I told her of my collection, she said “That’s right down my alley.” For eighteen years I taught fifth grade at Wilshire Elementary School in Euless, Texas, and during those years other teachers and my students sometimes happily and sometimes inadvertently shared their family favorites to my collection. -- VIRGINIA FREEMAN TAYLOR |
